NAVIGATING THE FUTURE OF HEALTH SOCIAL WORK
We are taking this opportunity to consider the
changing field of health social work and the
critical role health social workers will play in
determining the direction of healthcare as we
publish the most recent edition of the Indian
Journal of Health Social Work. The principles
guiding this edition are reinforced by this
editorial note, which also emphasizes the
opportunities and challenges that still exist in
our field.
The goal of our publication is to shed light on
the relationship between social work and
healthcare by providing analysis, new ideas,
and research that enhances our knowledge
of the ways in which social work affects
healthcare systems and patient outcomes. We
continue to examine these intersections in this
issue with a wide range of articles that
highlight the breadth and complexity of our
discipline.

challenges. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in recent years, there has been a growing
interest in how technology can be used to address social challenges. In recent years, the field of
clinical social work has begun exploring the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance
service delivery and client outcomes. So, this paper is emphasis to know the comprehensive
understanding of how AI technologies can revolutionize clinical social work practices. Therefore,
AI tools offer promising advancements in the field of clinical social work.

AMIDST HOPE AND VULNERABILITIES: A POST-COVID 19 STUDY OF INTERNAL MIGRANTS FROM BIHAR
Migration is a phenomenon that
exhibits certain traits which are susceptible
to certain social, economic, cultural, and
political insecurities. It is a process which
involves spatial movement for a stipulated
period. This movement of an individual or a
group of people require a change in
administrative jurisdiction i.e., from one
village to another village, one town to another
town, one city to another city, one state to
another state or one country to another
country. However, the reasons for such
movement can be broadly classified as poverty
(De Haan, 1999), low productivity,
unemployment, underdevelopment, poor

PROBLEMS OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV: A CASE STUDY OF MANIPUR
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a
lifelong contagious viral disease that weakens
the individual’s immune system without
treatment and progresses to the life
threatening illness known as AIDS (acquired
i mmunodeficiency syndrome). The
t ransmission of HIV continues to be
designated as a global epidemic by World
Health Organisation. Globally, the incidence
of people living with HIV (PLHIV) was 38.4
million (33.9-43.8 million), with an expected
650000 (510000-860000) mortality from the
disease by 2021. Despite substantial
developments in antiretroviral therapy supply,
and access, as well as a rapid growth of
awareness efforts over the past thirty years,
almost 2 million each year cases of infections
have been documented (UNAIDS,2023; WHO,
2022). In 2019, HIV infection resulted in 47.63
million. Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs)
worldwide, a 1.28-fold increase over 1990
(UN, 2015).

EXPERIENCE OF SCHOOL-GOING GIRLS IN PUBERTY STAGE REGARDING MENSTRUAL HEALTH AND HYGIENE MANAGEMENT: A STUDY IN COAL-FIELD-AREAS OF RANIGANJ
This study is based on Raniganj Coalfield
area, primarily located in the Asansol and
Durgapur subdivisions of Paschim Bardhaman,
West Bengal (India).There are many Health
hazards in coalfield areas. Poor air quality,
noise, and mental health issues also
contribute to health risks. School-going Girls
may face various problems in puberty stage
due to limited access to hygiene products,
clean facilities, and menstrual education
hinders their well-being and attendance. lead to sexual maturity and reproductive
capabilities. Girl children experience puberty
between the ages of 8 and 13. In this stage,
various emotional and psychological changes
occur, which may lead to mood swings, self
awareness, and maturation. Additionally,
there are visible changes in body composition,
growth in height, and development of
reproductive organs.

In contemporary healthcare systems, the
integration of professional social work has
become increasingly vital for addressing
patients’ intricate psychosocial needs and
enhancing overall well-being. Social workers
play diverse roles across specialized medical
areas, tailoring their services to effectively
address challenges posed by various conditions and patient populations. Their
contributions span patient advocacy,
psychosocial support, care coordination,
addressing social determinants of health,
counseling, crisis intervention, and more. As
healthcare grows in complexity and diversity,
the importance of professional social work in
promoting holistic patient care and driving
systemic improvements within healthcare
systems has never been more pronounced.

EMPOWERING THE HOMELESS: A CASE REPORT ON PSYCHOSOCIAL INTERVENTION FOR A WOMAN WITH BIPOLAR AFFECTIVE DISORDER AND ASSOCIATED CHALLENGES
Bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) stands out
as a prevalent mental health condition among
the homeless population, carrying an elevated
risk of disability and mortality attributed to
suicide, medical issues such as HIV/AIDS,
hypertension, and substance use disorders. Yale University reports classify an estimated
150 million individuals, or approximately 2%
of the global population, as homeless, while
an additional 1.6 billion lack adequate housing
(Ayano et al., 2020). The multifaceted causes
of homelessness encompass mental illness,
sexual assault, poverty, domestic violence,
unemployment, addictions, social isolation,
family breakdown, and financial difficulties,
identified as common factors in various studies
(Habanik, 2018).

The “Indian Journal of Health Social Work” is a bi
annual E-journal which is published in the month of
January and July in every year. The Indian Journal of
Health Social Work is an official publication of All India
Association of Medical Social Work Professionals
(AIAMSWP). The journal accepts original research
work, review articles, case reports, commentary,
forum, & brief communication related to social work
practice in health care.
